Halcyon Barn Reviews

We had a lovely time at the lodge, it’s in a beautiful area and it’s very spacious, cosy and well-equipped. We needed somewhere ‘accessible’ for my elderly father, and this really did the trick. Our energetic English Pointer loved exploring the enclosed outdoor area too!
Verified Guest
Outstanding accommodation in a lovely quiet area. The lodge is fully furnished to a very high standard, warm and inviting. The grounds are dog friendly in every way. Stuart is a very helpful and discreet host, and has thought of everything - and definitely wins the prize for the best hamper!

Our rating would probably be 4/5 stars. Overall the property, facilities and accommodation were well presented and the location peaceful. . We very much enjoyed our stay.

Lovely house beautifully presented. Wide doorways, open space, level access and high beds made it more accessible to my husband who uses a wheelchair

From the moment we arrived at Downbridge Lodge, we were really pleased. The lodge is peaceful, our son loved the outdoor games room, and the welcome package of high quality products were much appreciated. The rooms were set out nicely, the complementary toiletries were lovely. We loved the fire pit/BBQ, and to just relax in the garden. Stuart came to check that we were ok, and that everything was ok. We had some lovely walks round Hoxne, there is a cafe not far from the lodge, Greengold cafe, the owner was lovely. We had everything we needed at the lodge. The lodge is easy to find, a great location, there is lots to explore in the surrounding areas, and there is some great history in the village, see the bridge as you arrive at the village. Many thanks to Stuart for our stay in what we all said was a wonderful place, where we made lots of memories

A spotlessly clean, well appointed and very nicely furnished property within easy reach of many of Suffolk’s most popular tourist attractions. The property owner lives next door and is available to respond immediately to any issues ( we didn’t have any!) Website details need to be updated to reflect that there is no longer a Post Office , shop or deli in the village. The local pub was welcoming and provided decent meals at reasonable prices. Can highly recommend.
Verified Guest
A very well appointed cottage not to far from coast or other at places of interest.

Throughly enjoyable stay, the accommodation is wonderful clean quiet and lovely gardens to relax in. Nice little hamper on arrival. Couldn’t have wished for better. Little details in this property made it have that luxurious touch.Would love to return. Short drive to diss which is probably the nearest town.

The property was excellent, however the only pub in the village had lost its alcohol licence and the only general store had closed down.
Verified Guest
Lovely lodge. Very clean and comfortable. Facilities very good too. The owner came over to greet us when we arrived and told us about the community day on the last day of our stay. I would be very happy for a return visit

We absolutely loved our stay at this lodge. It's a great location, beautifully presented and had everything we needed. The local pub does really good food and you can walk from the house along a footpath to get there. The garden at the house is huge and completely enclosed which was perfect for our dog. The outside games area with the table tennis table, dart board and table football was a big hit with the children. We would definitely recommend staying here!

Absolutely lovely place to stay. Well appointed and comfortable and a super sunny courtyard to relax in after a busy day sightseeing. Delightful village.

Amazing holiday accommodation. As advertised - even better. Lovely weather during our stay.
Verified Guest
Perfect, convenient location. Perfect property - bright and very comfortable. Well equipped too. Ideal for exploring both Suffolk and Norfolk. Close to shopping in Diss and just a short walk from a great pub which does good food too.
Verified Guest
Fantastic place to stay & we can highly recommend it. The bedrooms are spacious and with both having an en-suite, it's an ideal place for couples/family to stay. It has a great outdoor seating area/garden to use weather permitting.
Verified Guest
Lovely accommodation in a nice private, peaceful setting. The Lodge was well equipped and very clean and comfortable. Convenient location for exploring countryside and coast. Good local pub only a short walk away along public footpath. We would definitely book again and would recommend without hesitation.

Lovely property. Very spacious and comfortable.

A beautiful and spacious barn in a lovely Sufflok village. Homely without being 'busy', you can relax by the woodburner, sleep peacefully in super-comfortable beds and sit outside by the fire-pit looking at the stars. Stuart is a great host and came round to check we were OK during an unexpected power outage. The candles added to the charm! The location is lovely, near woodland walks and open fields. Downbridge Lodge is well-equipped, well-maintained and well-loved by us!
Beautiful barn, perfect for our family. Quality furniture, decor and kitchen equipment, and lots of room for the children to let off steam! Overall we had a wonderful time.
Pauline
Overall a lovely property, good location quiet but close to the coast and facilities at Halesworth. The beds and bedding were very comfortable, it would be nice if similarly luxurious fluffy and soft towels were supplied. The kitchen was well appointed with appliances, a couple more larger cooking pots would be welcome for a group of 8 who like catering. One problem was the downstairs bedroombathroom which had a pervading smell of oil as it was next to the boiler, guests in there left 3 days early. Also due to circumstances shortly before our holiday, the property is unsuitable for a wheelchair as all 4 entrances had steps, perhaps this should be included on the website for future guests reference. Aside from the property, the worst aspect was the booking company who were extremely difficult and complicated to contact by any means next day responses on WhatsApp, live chat unavailable. Other holiday booking agents normally supply one named contact complete with telephone number and email address. Overall an enjoyable stay in a beautiful part of the country.
Beautiful peaceful location, stunning property and very well equipped. A great place to spend a few days with friendsfamily. Convenient for the coast, Southwold, Walberswick . Recommend the Queens Head at Bramfield and also we had the most wounderful tour and picnic at Valley Farm Vineyards, thanks to Adrian, which is 20 minutes walk away. BBQ area, hot tub, plenty of space for games and a very well equipped kitchen. I cannot recommend enough.
Amazing property everything we needed
What an incredible property ! Stunning location , amazing standard of facilities from the fully equipped kitchen , living area with full Sky TV , stunning bedrooms , hot tub , garden , BBQs , eating area with massive table for all of us to be together and also brilliant WiFi ! They have thought of every this property and credit to the owners.
Christine
An amazing place! We had a great stay. We would definitely recommend and hope to come back again We had everything we needed
Robert
I e mailed and phoned on numerous occasions to see if the barn would be decorated for Christmas, and was informed yes but to get to the barn and find decorations was a 2 foot twig very sad after paying a lot of money to stay there. Also the BBQ was not fit to use
We had a problem with the hot water on the Sunday morning, we didnt have any, we contacted the emergency contact number only to be told there was not anyone possibly coming out until the Monday. Your welcome book says that there is constant hot water. Maybe there should be a note in there to advise guests on where the time clock is and how to work it as we didnt have any of this information. This therefore had an impact on our stay which is rare family time. Apart from this we were delighted with the property. What a shame.
The accomodation was outstanding with plenty of space The Kitchen was stocked with the best utensils and an amazing array of spices should you wish to cook. Hot tub was also very good as was the outside seating, The weather helps of course.
Heather
Absolutely beautiful barn conversion. Very well equipped for guests to stay xx
A once in a lifetime opportunity to stay in an amazing property with friends. So much space for everyone. Beds were so comfortable, quilts and pillows were brilliant. Showers were excellent. Games were loved by everyone. Being able to do the washing meant we didn't have to pack loads and loads of clothes which was a bonus! Outdoor space was fabulous and it was just so peaceful being able to sit outside with a cuppa and listen to the birds. Everyone that stays here is going to love it
Rosanne
Brilliant stay. The accommodation is incredible and the amenities are excellent.
Alison
Thank you so much for letting us stay in your beautiful home we loved the open spaces, tranquility and personal touches too. We will definitely recommend to others and hope to return again. Suffolk was such a surprise to us wed never been before and there is so much more to explore. Wishing you well for the rest of the summer and thank you once again. Alison and Kevin
Graham
A very tastefully restored Grade 11 listed barn . Everything was of very high quality ,with lots of quirky things too which was fun. This was the first few days of our summer weather so the 13 tog duvets proved a little challenging ! We could have done with some small water glasses, otherwise the kitchen was very well equipped. I sensed the owners loved this place as much as we did ! Thank you for making it available . Now we just need to think of an excuse to return !
Damian
A beautiful property with amazing facilities and an abundance of space to spread out. Our children loved the games room and hot tub! Would highly recommend.
We had a lovely weekend here with family. Its a beautiful barn well equipped. We enjoyed the games room, hot tub and barbeque.
Joanne
Could do with a good kitchen reorg kettle is other side of kitchen to cups. Toaster is other side of kitchen to cutlery and could do with being 4 slice. Frying pans and lasagne dish not big enough for family of eight. Cooker hob was quite difficult to get hang of but got there in the end. Otherwise perfect x
Richard
What a wonderful place to stay, the house and all amenities are first class, truly felt like home from home. Lovely large enclosed field for the dog to roam in was a bonus that I hadn't realised was there when booking. Also nice dog friendly walks direct from the door. The Jungle Rooms caf in the village is worth a visit for breakfast and lunch. My only negative comment is the hot tub got a little cold when in use, real first world problems! Hopefully we will return.
A beautiful barn set in its own quiet grounds, so much space inside but still giving a cosy feeling. Everyone was catered for, games, comfort and relaxation in the hot tub, leaflets were available which led us on walks and days out. The dogs had a wonderful time with their own field to walk in and the fenced off area for a quick sniff. The location was perfect for touring beautiful Norfolk, Suffolk and surrounding areas. Recommend a visit to Felixstowe, which has a beautiful promenade to walk along which is immaculate. A book has been put together showing the history of the barn which I found very interesting. Loved our 7 night stay and the only downside was having to leave.
Rebecca
We had a wonderful stay at Halcyon Barn. The facilities including the hot tub, games, books etc we're fantastic and the barn was furnished and equipped to a very high standard. We didn't miss a thing in the kitchen, the beds were supremely comfortable and the bedroom configuration was great. We were a 3 generational group of 7 plus a baby and we all loved it. The barn was not quite as clean as we would have liked, mostly dust, cobwebs etc as well as some old biscuits left in the jar. A minor niggle for what was otherwise a superb week.
Annita
Absolutely fantastic stay at the outstanding barn. We all loved our weekend break for my daughter's 21st birthday. Would highly recommend this property it is beautiful.
What an absolutely amazing place! ! Had an awesome family holiday here in June. No one wanted to leave! So glad we chose Halcyon Barn. The place is out of this world! Everything there you could wish for and everything of the highest qualitystandard. Very very comfortable and luxurious. Credit to the owners! Would definitely like to go back! Thank you so much!!
The Halcyon Barn is an excellent place to stay. Very clean & comfortable & had everything we needed to make our week away very enjoyable. A home from home. Thank you.
We had a family 6days here. It was absolutely wonderful. Relaxing, peaceful, it had everything we could possibly need, the beds were really comfortable, and cannot fault Halcyon barn . Which must make it perfect!
Amazing barn! We had a fabulous stay, perfect for a family get together. Beds so comfy, dcor gorgeous. It seems like we were here longer that we actually were. Thank you very much indeed.
What a lovely stay we have all had at this beautiful barn for a surprise 60th birthday! We were very lucky with the weather so were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings which was also perfect having stayed with two young children. The dcor of the barn was to such a high standard, exceeding all expectations! Thank you we will definitely be back!
What a lovely barn and location! We had a great week which was perfect for all three generations. Already recommended to friends who have booked for June.
An amazing place to spend Christmas with the family, beautifully furnished and beds very comfy.
What a fabulous property, huge amount of care and attention has gone into this. Very comfortable and very well equipped. This is the only property I've stayed in where my Global knives that I always take with me were not needed! Such a high standard, every one of my party was impressed, especially my 5 year old grandson who loved the table tennis!
We have had a wonderful stay! This was booked for my husband?s 60th birthday and for the family to get together, it was a beautiful barn in lovely surroundings. With two autistic children and one autistic adult there?s more than enough space for everyone. The stay has been so relaxing and we will definitely return next year.
The attention to detail at Halcyon Barn is secondtonone a stunning conversion with an impressive vaulted interior, decor which is as comfortable as it is luxurious, plenty of sofas to lounge on, a lovely dining space, beds you'll never want to get out of, and thoughtfully stocked bathrooms. Everything you could want from a kitchen, and the bonus of a gamesroom which is ideal for families and also groups of competetive friends. There is ample parking, and the outside entertainment spaces make the most of the sun at different times of the day, amidst the surrounding outlook which is serene and peaceful. There is also a cracking pub at the end of the lane and beyond that there is so much of Suffolk to explore within easy reach of the doorstep. I really enjoyed my stay.
